MINNESOTA SHORELINE MANAGEMENT REGULATIONS FOR BUILDING  

Depending on the classifications of the lake, there are different requirements.

General Development Lakes:   if the lot has sewer, the lot must be 75 ft. wide with an area of 15,000 sq. ft. and the structural set back from the high water mark needs to be 50 ft.  If the lot is non sewered  (septic system), the width of the lot must be 100 ft., total area 20,000 ft, and structural set back 75 ft. from the high water mark. 

Recreational Development Lakes:  if the lot has sewer, the lot must be 75 ft. wide with an area of 20,000 sq. ft. and the structural set back from the high water mark needs to be75 ft.  If the lot is non sewered  (septic system), the width of the lot must be 150 ft., total area 40,000 ft, and structural set back 100ft. from the high water mark. 

Natural Environment Lakes:  if the lot has sewer, the lot must be 125 ft wide and an area of 40,000 sq. ft. and the structural set back from the high water mark needs to be 150 ft.  If the lot is non sewered    (septic system), the width of the lot must be 200 ft., total area 80,000 sq. ft., and structural set back 150 ft. from the high water mark.  In all cases the lots must be 3 feet above the high water mark in elevation and the septic area must be 3 feet above the highest ground water elevation.  On all of these lots, the impervious surfaces( any material which will not absorb water) can not cover more than 25% of the lot area.
